What can we do there?
You can explore a variety of mountain biking trails across the Crow Wing region. Notable areas include:
Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area: Over 70 miles of award-winning, purpose-built trails that range from beginner loops to advanced downhill runs.
Crow Wing State Park: Offers natural-surface trails for a quiet ride through scenic forests and along the Mississippi River.
Crow Wing State Forest: Features 33 miles of rustic backcountry biking, perfect for riders who want to explore off the beaten path.
Paul Bunyan State Trail: A paved option ideal for a leisurely ride through the heart of Nisswa and beyond.
How far is it from True North?
Trailheads range from just 5 minutes away (Paul Bunyan State Trail is accessible in downtown Nisswa) to about 20–25 minutes by car for places like Cuyuna and Crow Wing State Park.
When is it open?
Most trails are open year-round, weather permitting. Some may temporarily close during Minnesota’s big game hunting season or due to wet trail conditions.
How much does it cost?
Many trails are free to use. However, state parks (like Cuyuna or Crow Wing) require a daily or annual vehicle permit. As of now, a daily permit is around $7.
